"I want to become" Statement
Assignment Description/Summary
The purpose of this activity is to reflect on your ‘I am’ statement from the beginning of the semester and set goals for who you want to become as an honors student at IUI. This self-reflection identifies areas of growth and helps you to set your intentions.
"I want to become" Statement
My name is Nicole Cremasco, and I am currently a Junior Honors college student. Even since graduating from High school and coming to IUPUI I have strived to achieve 4 specific goals: leadership, helping my community, high academic achievement, and cultural understanding. The purpose of having these goals is for me to better understand myself as well as allow myself to improve skills that I value for my future professional and personal life. Furthermore, as short-term goals, I want to get a summer internship, graduate from college next year, and enroll into a graduate program. As long-term goals, I want to get a job after graduate school and eventually get a high administrative position in the software development industry.
I started out completing these goals by joining three organizations: Jagathon: IUPUI’s Dance Marathon, The Undergraduate Student Government, and the Honors College Student Council. I am currently serving in a leadership position for all of these organizations which has allowed me to improve my leadership skills. The experiences from my involvement in these organizations have covered, for the most part, all four goals. For me to fully complete my leadership goal, I would like to become the President of Jagathon next year. Also, for my cultural understanding goal I am looking for studying abroad to Costa Rica next semester which will allow me to broaden my cultural knowledge when working with people around the world. As I described, my involvement on Campus also reveals my values and qualities. I am very passionate about supporting my community, making sure student’s voices are being heard, and fighting for inclusivity on campus.
Though I have had many new and positive opportunities so far in college, I believe that by being a part of the honors college, I will be able to build on my networking skills as well as achieve high academic performance by achieving outstanding grades. I want these experiences to help me lead others to success by mentoring them to reach their full potential. I want to be able to advocate for myself and others. But ultimately, I want to be an example to my younger sisters who are just starting their college and career path.
Reflection Essay
For this assignment, I planned my future and where I want to go. Earlier in the semester, I was able to write about who I am, but not about where I would like to get in the future which was the purpose of this project. This assignment allowed me to learn about my goals and how to achieve them.
ePortfolio: Perfectionism
Assignment Description/Summary
The purpose of this assignment is to identify a challenge facing honors students and collaborate with a team of peers to develop an action plan for how to address it.
Reflection Essay
For this assignment, I was able to further understand one of the challenged I face every day: being a perfectionism. While it can be a positive characteristic, it can also be negative. This project allowed me to understand what can I do to not let perfectionism get in the middle of my personal and professional life.
Engagement and Leadership
The purpose of this assignment is to help you identify your skills, interests, and values, and explore engaged learning experiences and leadership opportunities that align with your academic and personal goals as an Honors College student.
Engagement & Leadership
Statement written in Fall 2023
IUI provides many opportunities for all students to find something they would like to get involved on Campus. These opportunities are made ofr us tot ake advantage of to grow personally and professionally. I have been involved since my freshman year, but there are two of their engaged and leadership opportunities that I would like too take advantage of for the next year and a half: study abroad program, serving as President of Jagathon 2025.
The opportunity to study abroad will allow me to complete my goals of ganing cultural knowledge by learning about new cultures. This could be from learning their different traditions, food, language, etc. I believe this experience would allow me to get outside my comfort zone by the challenges of merging into a different culture. Furthermore, study abroad will allow me to be connect be a more well rounded and understanding student and, with these skills, I will be able to better lead my team on my future career.
Being an International Peer Mentor it allow me to improve my leadership and mentoring skills which will be essential for my desired career as a top leader/owner of a company. Additionally, I believe this opportunity will give me the opportunity to advocate for others on how they feel included on campus. I would be able to build leadership and communication skills. Both of these skills are important for my desire career to become a leader of a company and mentor of a team.
Being able to serve as Jagathon 2025 President would allow me to grow both personally and professionally. Also, I believe this would give me the opportunity to connect with not only other students, but also faculty and staff which would be important for me when applying to internships and graduate school. Having these connections are important for me to build my network.
Each one of these opportunities described would help me achieve my goals as a honors students by helping me go above and beyond the normal academic expectations. I plan to fulfill my study abroad goals next semester. For Jagathon 2025 President, I plan on working on those next year. However, with the slipt happening, I am not sure I will be eligible to do any of them. Though next year is not completely defined, I look forward to use all resources IUI has available to me because I strive to use this experiences to achieve my desired career.
Reflection Essay
This assignment allowed me to set some of my goals for the next three semesters in college. I was able to brainstorm what are the next steps I want to take to achieve my desired career. Also, I was able to understand what skills I want to improve.
